Dr. Berndt Hauptkorn, CEO Uniqlo Europe and Global Officer at the brand’s parent company Fast Retailing, has left the Japanese retailer.

As a spokeswoman said: "Uniqlo Europe confirms that Berndt Hauptkorn left Uniqlo at the end of August to join another company. Until further notice, Takao Kuwahara, Uniqlo Europe COO, has taken over Berndt Hauptkorn’s responsibilities." 

Hauptkorn was based between London and Paris and held his leadership role at Uniqlo Europe since June 2012. According to industry-oriented reports, he will take on a senior role at Chanel. Hauptkorn’s previous roles include CEO of luxury brand Bally (for just over two years), Group CEO of Labelux and principal at the Boston Consulting Group.


Takao Kuwahara has worked his way up the Fast Retailing Group over more than twenty years. He became chief executive at Uniqlo UK in January 2012, before being appointed COO Uniqlo Europe.
