Slow fashion in the true sense: It took fine artist Tim Borchert and textile expert Yannick Heidemanns two years to finalize the first collection of their menswear label Per Se. The two friends founded Per Se in Hamburg in 2018, then moved to Berlin where they fine tuned the collection in order to launch in 2021.

Per Se presented its first collection during the Berlin Fashion Film Festival in January in a designer talk that showcased a short clip of their collection in suspended animation. The first 20-piece collection titled “Selbstgespräch” (Self Talk) circles around the question of how to redefine men’s fashion basics through craft, construction and quality.

“Fashion is an expression of our times and we believe it is important to bring new ideas and concepts to the industry. Our approach is different from the existing market and we hope to play our part in that progression. Ultimately, it is the customer that will decide the why,“ the design duo states.

Using cotton and linen from Japan, wool from Lithuania and merino and cashmere yarn from Italy, the “Selbstgespräch” collection utilizes natural variants in the dying process to imbue the garments with the power to evolve over time. Shirts in signature cuts offer both button and zip closures and are combined with tailored trousers and light layered outerwear. The Begonia bag in rhubarb ’leather’ is meant to stand out an addition to any look.

The design duo follows a seasonless, direct-to-consumer approach, but considers looking into the wholesale business as well. All items are manufactured in Berlin. Retail prices range between €410 for a waistcoat made from cotton and linen and €2.500 for a leather jacket.
