Yesterday the Tribunal of Milan hosted a court hearing for taking an important decision about the future of 120 employees and 800 other workers of laboratories connected with Giada SpA, the Italian specialized jeanswear manufacturer producing for Jacob Cöhen.
The Tribunal might decide to prolong the licensing agreement for 18 months more despite the decision announced by Jacob Cöhen to start working with a different partner, Sinv (also read here and here).
A recent meeting involving workers and local unions held inside a subsidiary of Giada SpA in Adria asked the parties involved in this decision to consider the exceptionally difficult moment while taking into consideration that Giada has been working for the Jacob Cöhen brand since 2004 and actively contributed its success through the years. During the recent assembly they issued a written document expressing their concern: “In a climate of general indifference a tragedy is going to happen and might involve 120 employees and 800 connected workers of the local value chain. All this is happening in a very difficult moment because of the pandemic–which might make workers’ relocation even harder. Until now workers preferred not to interfere with the numerous attempts to find agreements and prolong the Jacob Cöhen licensing agreement. Though now it’s time that managers and people responsible for the future of these workers and their families keep in mind key aspects like time, work and common sense.
These mothers and fathers don’t ask for subsistence, but work, respect and dignity […] as it is time to leave economic and personal interests apart and safeguard the weakest.”
