Sascha Weil is the new brand director of Supra Footwear for the EMEA region. He is responsible for leading the brand to further growth and commercial success and underlining Supra’s roots of being a maverick in the footwear business. Before he started with Supra Weil worked as general manager for Buddha to Buddha, an Amsterdam-based lifestyle brand, for four years. Prior to that he was EMEA marketing manager for O’Neill for 11 years.

Here, he shares his private side.

What do you want to change at your new position?

I want everyone to know that Supra is a super cool brand, born from skate and always did its own thing, no matter what the trends indicated. This made Supra by nature a maverick in the industry, always different, always special, off the beaten path. Of course I want to contribute to its success and expansion in the future.

If not your current job, what would you do in another life?

I would live in a hut as a park ranger and protect the mountain gorillas of the Virunga Mountains.

Where do you prefer to buy–apart from the brand?

Depends on my mood: Your in Antwerp for inspiration, Meent (Rotterdam) or 9 Straatjes (Amsterdam) for cool items, downtown SF for staple products and online (e.g. Best Secret) for convenience.

How would you describe your clothing style?

Mainstream hipster

Quite spontaneously: What is the favorite item of clothing that you own?

My gray Luke denims from Lee.

What was your first pair of jeans?

Can’t remember, must’ve been a pair from C&A in size 104.

What was your worst fashion sin ever?

Wearing a super baggy pair of canvas camo pants with flare bottoms.

What was the last thing you purged from your wardrobe?

I brought about 300 T-shirts to the Salvation Army recently. I was emotionally attached to the tees, but never wore them anymore.

Which part or product is at the top of your wish list?

I have everything I need or want.

Who is your favorite designer?

Karl Lagerfeld–what an icon, for so many years.

What don't you like about the fashion industry?

The pollution and waste it causes. It’s the second most polluting industry in the world and sustainability, waste reduction and environmental friendliness should be on everybody’s agenda far more.

Are you more like…

... Rolex or Apple Watch?

Neither. I never wear watches.

... newspaper or news app?

Newspaper.

... sneakers or high heels/brown shoes?

Sneakers for sure!

... New York or Nice?

New York.

Briefs.

Brick-and-mortar.
