We talked to Rebecca Kazav who has been chief sales officer (CSO) of the Mustang Group since the beginning of October. In her new position she is responsible for all distribution channels of the brand’s own retail and wholesale and remains in the position as chief retail officer (CRO) on the Executive Committee around CEO Dietmar Axt. Here, she presents her private side.
If not your current job, what would you do in another life?
There is a little bit in all of us that is in search of doing something with a real purpose and effectively changing people’s lives–I am no exception to this. Gender inequality is a huge topic and still a big problem in developing countries. I have this dream of eventually using all my knowledge and all my experience to help women with painful backgrounds, who have had no chance in life, to start their own business.
Where do you prefer to buy–apart from the brand?
I pepper high street with the odd designer piece. Denim is more versatile than ever before, for example I like the allover denim looks from Raf Simons for his first Calvin Klein Collection in the autumn/winter 2017-18 collection. He shows the modern western look, which we also find in our DNA of Mustang. Furthermore I find the new H&M concept of Arket very interesting. Basic cuts with luxurious materials. I always find something in &other stories. The shop has an attitude: A point of view on culture beyond the outfit.
How would you describe your clothing style?
Casual denim looks with a playful and sometimes ethnic touch.
Quite spontaneously: What is the favorite item of clothing that you own?
My Mustang long blouson, a kind of college jacket out of denim.
What was your first pair of jeans?
My first jean was a classic straight fit. I cut the seams in order to fit over my Buffalos.
What was your worst fashion sin ever?
Platform Buffalo boots.
Which part or product is at the top of your wish list?
In danger of sounding cliché I’m going to say a Céline bag.
Who is your favorite designer?
On a personal level I sometimes do indulge into the world of Paris Fashion Week and watch in awe the likes of Miuccia Prada’s magical collection or Christopher Kane´s storytelling. But most of the time I find real life in the streets of London, New York and Paris with its colorful people. These places provide the best catwalks for inspiration. I especially like the creative and still wearable denim looks from the streets of these cities during fashion week.
What don't you like about the fashion industry?
It’s fast, unforgiving and trends can feel superficial in the grand scale of things.
