Kjore Project is an accessory leather brand that debuted in 2013, and has ever since grown adding more product categories throughout the seasons. Following its expansion, it will also feature footwear from f/w 2015/2016.
The brand is designed and produced by Cornelius Design, a top-quality footwear company from Verona, Italy, founded over fifty years ago, committed to produce top quality footwear. More recently a small designer team and craftspeople as well as skilled laborers have founded Kjøre Project. This new line of accessories, characterized by Nordic style products and a brand name that means ‘to guide’ in Norwegian, is made with only rough and sturdy leathers, which have an incredibly soft touch. Other high quality materials such as sturdy canvas and selvedge denim fabrics from Berto Bleu Selvedge, truly unique connoisseur denim, are also used.
Mixing Scandinavian inspiration with supreme Italian raw materials gave life to a series of functional and cool backpacks, cellular sleeves and wallets that are made from sturdy canvas or denim with leather details, lined with calf leather. After launching their selection of boots in Blue Selvedge denim at Pitti Uomo in January 2015, they will offer more variants in colored denim for the June edition of the Florence show.
“At Kjøre Project we strive to create modern products that respect the past,” explains Luca Lovato, owner, Cornelius Design. “All the styles in the Heritage collection are designed and built just as they were fifty, sixty and even over eighty years ago and are all made using premium leather, totally handcrafted by carefully dedicated tanners and their refusal to compromise on materials and wait for the time necessary to achieve the desired result that differentiates our tanned leather from all other leathers. Instead of peeling and cracking, our leather develops its own patina, changing gradually in appearance and taking on the character of its user over time. The scars, scratches, veins and wrinkles that give each piece in our collection its unique character have not been sanded down or buffed. We specifically chose not to cover minor imperfections with paint sealers or artificial finishes, using only clear dyes in a range of colors that enhance rather than conceal the beautiful character of our leather.”
And continues: “Our team of designers and craftspeople produced each Kjøre Project piece by hand, utilizing the same style of tools that have been used to create leather goods for years. We blend classic techniques with modern mechanics to achieve the best possible treatment within each step of production we embarked on a quest for perfection – perfection in design and perfection in craftsmanship.”
Retail prices for wallets (all lined with calf leather) range from about 55€ to 150€ for a deer variant. Backpacks range from 210€ to 270€, shoes from 160€ to 240€, and a denim boot costs 175€.
